“Take Back the Night” is an international initiative intended as a protest against all forms of sexual, relationship and domestic violence.

A "Take Back The Night" walk has been organised in response to the sexual assaults which have occurred in the Shankill / Killiney community over the last year.

The walk intends to bring the community together to stand in solidarity with the people who have been affected by these attacks and to reclaim a space in which community members should feel safe. Moreover, this walk stands in solidarity with everyone who has ever been affected by sexual violence, as more often than not, individuals are sexually assaulted by someone known to them, in a context in which they feel safe.

The walk will take place at 7.30 pm, starting at Shankill DART Station. From there, the group will walk through Rathsallagh (parallel to the DART line), up to Shanganagh Rd / Commons Road crossroads, turn right onto Shanganagh Rd, onto Killiney Hill Road, past Bayview, turn right onto Seafield Road, past Holy Child, left onto Military Rd, down Killiney Hill road, continuing straight on Shanganagh Road until we eventually turn left at Scoil Mhuire to go back to the DART Station.

Bring your parents, partners, grandparents, children, babies, buggies, friends and dogs! Let us show our support for the people affected by these horrific attacks and stand up as a community against sexual violence.

Please note this is a community event and by taking part all participants acknowledge the risks associated with walking in this event, including but not limited to: falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather, including cold temperatures/ice, traffic and the conditions of the road, which could cause injury (including bodily injury). Participants must not participate unless they are medically able and properly trained. Please note that by attending the event you grant permission for photographs, videos and recordings to be taken in which you may appear. Such media may be used to report on the event (by community members and the media).

Please note that An Garda Síochána have been notified about this event.
